How to make Festive Sugar Cookies
01 Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
02 Dry Ingredients: In a small Bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
03 Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large Bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
04 Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
05 Combine Mixtures: Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
06 Forming Cookies: Roll rounded Teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased Cookie Sheets. If you want, you can flatten them slightly.
07 Baking: Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on Cookie Sheet for two minutes before removing to cool on Wire Racks.
08 Prepare Icing: While cookies are cooling, in a medium Bowl, mix together confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Adjust the consistency with more milk or sugar to achieve a slightly thick but pourable icing.
09 Decorate with Icing and Sprinkles: Once the cookies are cooled, drizzle or spread icing on them and immediately add sprinkles.
10 Set and Serve: Allow the icing to set before serving. Store in an airtight container.
